Waste-IT cuts the carbon fat and develops into a greener achiever

2 July 2012

With ever-rising fuel prices, and a 50 mile round commute from their homes in Fleet, Hampshire to the office in Basingstoke, Sam Prentice & Sam Mountain from Waste IT have taken a bold step to cut costs, and reduce their impact on the environment. As Sales Manager Sam Prentice explains, the move has also allowed them to increase their business presence.

“On average we had been driving 1,050 miles each month to and from Basingstoke. Despite car sharing, the fuel, traffic, stress and environmental costs of driving this distance were immense. Based on current fuel prices, the annual cost of our journey to the office in Basingstoke was £2,504. Emissions for the journey along the M3 alone were 12,600.

“So we started looking into the possibility of opening an additional office in Fleet and were surprised to find the current business rental markets were slashing their prices by more than half.  By reducing our square footage on our Basingstoke location we have more than doubled here at the Fleet office.

“I decided to cycle to work after training with my partner who is taking part in the 100km London to Brighton night ride, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Reducing costs with every turn of the pedal, Sam and I have saved 6.93 tons of CO2 annually, which according to Carbonify the off-setting can be equated to 35 trees.
