Magpie celebrates 20 years

2 July 2012

Magpie Co-operative is celebrating its 20th year of reducing, reusing and recycling in Brighton & Hove.

Starting life as Magpie Recycling, three volunteers started collecting drink cans, glass and office paper from a small number of local residents and businesses. In 1992 Magpie became a Co-operative Limited Company and four years later the company started a curbside collection scheme, collecting a wide range of recyclable materials from domestic households. Since then, subscribers have grown from 17 to around 2000 customers throughout Brighton & Hove.

Magpie will be celebrating its 20 years with the Magpie Eco Festival at Saunders Park in Brighton on Saturday, 14 July. Local bands and DJ's have been lined up to play on a solar powered stage and locally made food and drinks, sustainable craft stalls and various workshops will be available. Anyone is welcome to join the festival. For more information contact jo@magpie.coop or sibel@magpie.coop
